Following the construction of a mere 18 Phantom IV chassis, strictly for ruling heads of state, Rolls-Royce turned back to offering a Phantom for the very wealthy in 1959. The Phantom V, as it was logically dubbed, was based upon an all-new chassis design and included a new V8 engine, as well as a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and servo-assisted brakes. It remained a tremendously expensive automobile that was produced solely to individual special-order. As with earlier Rolls-Royces, the tradition of bespoke custom coachwork continued, with the world’s few remaining coachbuilders turning out ash forms that were skinned in aluminum and finished in the owner’s choice of paint colors and trim.
Among the scarcest bodies for the Phantom V were those built by long-lived UK coachbuilder Park Ward, which in 1961 was merged with H.J. Mulliner under Rolls-Royce auspices, becoming Mulliner Park Ward. Thus, only the earliest Phantom Vs were bodied by Park Ward independently, some to their very attractive body design 980, a “notchback” limousine.
The magnificent Rolls-Royce Phantom V Limousine featured here is finished in stunning Tutor Gray Metallic over Shell Gray with a gorgeous deep burgundy Connolly leather/wool interior surrounded by magnificent Walnut woodwork throughout. This incredible motorcar was special ordered and delivered new to John Mecom owner of the New Orleans Saints football team. Mr. Mecom subsequently sold the Phantom V to renowned actor Dale Robertson who in turn sold it to famed comedian Red Skelton where it remained for many years. Just released from a prominent Rolls-Royce collection and 5LAT54 is ready for its next caretaker. We are incredibly pleased to offer this extremely rare and sought-after Phantom V Limousine to the most sophisticated collector, investor or enthusiast who understands and appreciates this virtually handbuilt masterpiece.
For all of you who are not familiar, Rolls-Royce no longer exists as it has for the past hundred years; it is now owned by BMW and models are being mass-produced. The days of cars being handcrafted by artisans in Crewe are now just a fond memory. This particular car was built at a time when Rolls-Royce was truly building the world’s finest motorcars with the care and craftsmanship evident in every detail.

However, as with all pre-owned automobiles, the condition is subjective, and we recommend that the potential buyer fly out to inspect, as well as test drive any of our vehicles before finalizing their purchase. If it is not feasible for you to personally perform an inspection, we will gladly help facilitate an inspection by an independent service center of your choice and will make delivery arrangements of the vehicle for this purpose. All vehicles are sold in “AS IS” condition. Extended warranty options are available on most vehicles. Please be advised that no verbal statements concerning any vehicle constitutes a representation or warranty of said vehicle. Our goal is to provide you with the best service and buying experience as possible. All purchases include an additional 5 processing fee which covers the processing of paperwork, pre-vehicle delivery costs, FedEx shipping fees, and a 30-day temporary registration plate so that the vehicle can be driven prior to the title transfer.
